Fellowship of the (swim) Ring(s)

Hello again, interwebs!

Yes, it’s been a weekend full of exciting activities here at Casa de Bear.  Let’s review, shall we?

Friday night the boys and I went to swim lessons (of course) and then to see X-Men – Divided we Fall or whatever it’s called.  No offense to you X-men fans out there, but I couldn’t help but notice that it was the X-women that did most of the work.  Not that I’m complaining.  And I never have seen the first or second X-men and never read the book so hey, I was just along for the ride.  My eight year old explained all the finer plot points to me, in between deafening explosions.  And I refuse to say that at 41 I’m getting too old for this kind of movie, since all the previews (except the Omen, that one just looked a little weird) looked great.  Can’t wait for Ghost Rider, for example, cuz Nicky Cage swinging a flaming chain while flying on a possessed motorcycle is the stuff dreams are made of.

Saturday morning we had nothing to do.  Nothing at all.  No sports, no family committments, no work, no training, no shopping (nothing urgent at least), nada.

So of course the kids were up at the butt-crack of dawn, squabbling about Sponge Bob vs Barney and demanding to be fed.  We managed to get a couple dozen frozen waffles placed in front of them before they ate the table.  Then I was off to bleed for a Good Cause.

Yes, I donated blood on Saturday, exactly 9 weeks after I last donated – you can do it every 8 weeks, but I put them off until the weekend cuz it ruins my day, pretty much.  It’s like kryptonite or something.  Anyway, that went okay, except they said I was dehydrated (I’m thinking it’s the running plus the heat) and they didn’t have any free t-shirts (the main reason I give blood is not the fat-free cookies, as some do, it’s the free t-shirts leftover from some blood drive or another, they are great for working around the house).

So after I get through with the fun Vampire-oriented tasks of the day, it was time to rest and relax.  Only, not really.  We had lunch, we went to Target and Old Navy, I went to Sam’s Club for groceries, all the normal weekend crap.  Then my wife and I went on a Date. Woot! We went to an Australian themed steak restaurant, and actually ate about as healthy as wecould.  Then we went and bought groceries at Wal-mart.  Sam’s wasn’t enough. Then we put all the kids to bed and watched Zorro (Catherine was looking pretty good, although I’ll say a little more matronly than she did in the first one) and then since all the kids were asleep my wife practically slammed the door to our bedroom shut, locked it, and jumped my bones. Or I jumped hers.  It doesn’t matter: bones were jumped.

Sunday morning I went fishing with my five year old (which probably deserves its own entry), then we had lunch, washed our cars, vegged around the house some, I ran to the post office (with a two year old) to mail some junk at the automated postage thing, and then we went swimming.

While we were swimming we were playing with our swim rings, which you are supposed to dive down and pick up off the bottom, only the baby would have nothing to do with that and basically she convinced somebody else’s kid to go get the rings for her and she had a great time watching this in action. Hence the title for this post.

After the pool we had dinner, watched a little television while munching down on strawberries, put the kids to bed, and I went for a run and sat down to read blogs.

So, how was your weekend?

  1. Your daughter is one smart cookie. Never do for yourself what you can convince some other poor slob to do for you. 😉

Our weekend was okay, thanks for asking!

  2. it seems like you and I have switched places Ben! You’re feeling to much better and it looks like you’re enjoying your life, while I’m ready to crawl into a shower and just stay there all day.

Glad you had a great weekend though!

  3. Great job on the bone play!:D

    Did I just write that?!

I actually went on a date last night too! Yes, miracles still happen!

We saw “THE DA VINCI CODE.” We both liked it.

I bought a bottle of wine for my birthday & we talked about opening it last night. The whole time, him saying how he doesn’t care much for wine. Then when we had it, he enjoyed it & drank more. I couldn’t finish one glass. The wine turned him into “The Energizer Bunny” in the bed. I think I’ll be giving him wine more often.:D

Glad you had a great weekend too!
