Well, with all the excitement yesterday, I forgot today was the day we are to post our song list for Mixmania. So here’s my list, and Recipient, I hope you liked it!
- Destination Unknown
I cheated a little (and on the first song, too!) since I think I put this on my last mix. But hell, we’re making up the rules as we go, and nobody said we couldn’t, and it fit the theme, and I’m probably bigger than you anyway so deal. Anyway, this is a song by Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone, a fine man who has recently been made more than a little homeless by a certain Hurricane that shall Not Be Named. He wrote this song about his younger days when about the only thing he owned was some musical instruments and a motorcycle. If you happen to see Johnny somewhere (last I heard he was playing up in Toronto or thereabouts) tell him hi from the wacky guy in Texas. He might even remember me.- Attitude & Driving (Live)
Um, cuz it is. Life, that is. It’s all attitude and driving.- Nerf Herder – Buffy The Vampire Slayer Theme
This song so reminds me of trying to use the little on-ramps onto Central Expressway in Dallas (they’ve rebuilt it now, but it used to be Attempted Suicide just getting on the freeway)- Hard Drivin’ Man
Cuz I love it, that’s why. This is the live version, too. (oh, wait, in case you didn’t know, it’s J. Geils.)- Drivin All Night Long
Another Jack Ingram song, cuz well, he seems to know more than a little about driving.- Beer Run (live at lynaughs)
Another cheat, I’m sure I’ve sent this one out before. Todd Snider. Couple frat guys on a road trip. My kids love this (we sang it on the way to church last time)- Arrested for Driving While Blind
ZZ Top before, well, before many of y’all were born.- 30,000 Pounds of Bananas
Sorry, Recipient, this one is a little long, but I love listening to it on the road. And one of these days I’m gonna go down the hill into Scranton, Pennsylvania.- 18 Wheels on a Big Rig
If you have kids? This will help them learn how to count. Or drive you bonkers, since they’ll want to listen to it over and over again. If you don’t have kids? Inflict this song on somebody who does.- White Freightliner Blues
Ah, yes.- Gimme Some Lovin’
You know, sitting here, I’m afraid I might have nixed this one from the final mix. (oops) But it’s another road trip song, if I left it on there. Remember Stevie was only a teen when he sang this song.- Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
Because it’s about car wheels, on a gravel road. How much more “driving” can you get?- Dixie Diner
Another road trip song. You might remember Fingers as the harpoon man for Jimmy Buffett for many, many years. Have no idea where he is now. Jimmy went ahead and re-recorded lots of his classics, without harmonica, I guess so he didn’t have to think about his old friend anymore.- 45 Miles
Todd Snider and the Nervous Wrecks (that part is important, he doesn’t play with the Wrecks much anymore, so catch them if you can). It’s a song about just getting to wherever the hell you’re going.- L.A. Freeway
JJW. What else can I say?- Hey, Little Minivan
Yes, I still dream.- Radar Gun
Bot Rox, another ultimate road trip song.- Hot Rod Lincoln
My father said “son, you’re gonna drive me to drinkin'” They’ve got that right…- The Pascagoula Run
Buffett again, and yet another tribute so something that has been changed forever by She who Must Not Be Named
Well, um, that’s it.
