Turns out I do have something to post, after all. Inspired by the lovely and talented Mir

I see you looking and I know what you think
You’re getting braver with every drink but
I am telling you something you need to know

She may look like a sweet young thing
Talking to him but she ain’t hearing a thing
If you were smart you’d turn around and let her go

That girls’ a Barbie doll
A Barbie doll
She’s real good-looking but she’s got no heart at all

She puts on her makeup and drives to the bar in her
Boyfriend’s old man’s brand-new car
She’s got no idea what she does or why

She does whatever she wants I guess
Whatever comes first or whatever looks best
Nobody I know has ever seen her cry

That girls’ a Barbie doll
A Barbie doll
She’s real good-looking but she’s got no sense at allThat girls’ a Barbie doll
A Barbie doll
She’s real good-looking but she’s got no heart at all

You should have seen her last Saturday night
She had a friend of mine treating her right
She was hanging on him until she found a better deal

You should have seen how cold she got
My buddy asked why and she said why not
Nobody I know swears she’s even real

That girls’ a Barbie doll
A Barbie doll
She’s real good-looking but she’s got no heart at all

(song - Barbie Doll, by Jack Ingram and Todd Snider)

Dang this sun, dang this day
I’m just trying to stay out of your danged old way
To heck with this, to heck with us
Shoot if I’ll ever look back on where I’ve been
Shoot if I’ll ever give away my heart again

Love you, love this town
Love this mother-lovin’ truck that keeps breakin’ lovin’ down
There’s only one four-letter word that’ll do
Love you

Love your cat, love this house
Well I can’t believe myself that I’m lovin’ gettin’ out
Love talkin’, love fightin’
The thought of never seein’ your lovin’ face
There’s some words that some words just have to replace

Love you, love this town
Yeah I’m sick and lovin’ tired of all your lovin’ around
There’s only one four-letter word that’ll do
Love you

New Jack Ingram tune. Love it.

Happy Happy, Day 2

yet another Jack Ingram tune. The dude knows me, or somethin’

Happy happy, country, country
Somethin’ snappy Somethin’ funny
Make ‘em laugh, make ‘em have a good time
Don’t make ‘em lonely cause it makes ‘em cry
Just give ‘em happy, happy, country, country
That’s what they want, man to feel that funky
Happy country music’s gonna make ‘em think everything
Is gonna be all right

So many people feelin afraid
It looks like everybody’s got it made
So many others feelin’ alone
Got no one to love ‘em when they get home

They go to the bar to get away
From all the problems of everyday
Don’t need another tear in my beer
I got enough problems, don’t breing them here

Give em..Happy happy, country, country
Somethin’ snappy Somethin’ funny
Make ‘em laugh, make ‘em have a good time
Don’t make ‘em lonely cause it makes ‘em cry
Just give ‘em happy, happy, country, country
That’s what they want, man to feel that funky
Happy country music’s gonna make ‘em think everything
Is gonna be all right

Happiness and love that’s lost
We all want it and we pay the cost
But tonight let me get away
And talkin’ to the people, the people say

Happy happy, country, country
Somethin’ snappy Somethin’ funny
Make ‘em laugh, make ‘em have a good time
Don’t make ‘em lonely cause it makes ‘em cry
Just give ‘em happy, happy, country, country
That’s what they want, man to feel that funky
Happy country music’s gonna make ‘em think everything
Is gonna be all right

Keepin’ on

Some days you wonder what it all means
Some nights ain’t as bad as it seems
Sometimes you think you been had
Run yourself ragged in a world gone mad

Keep on, keep on keepin’ on
Push it on down the road
Keep on, keep on keepin’ on
Still got a ways to go

Keep on, keep on keepin’ on
Push it on down the line
Keep on, keep on keepin’ on
Keep from gettin’ further behind

- Jack

Attitude and Driving

Well, with all the excitement yesterday, I forgot today was the day we are to post our song list for Mixmania. So here’s my list, and Recipient, I hope you liked it!

  1. Destination Unknown
I cheated a little (and on the first song, too!) since I think I put this on my last mix. But hell, we’re making up the rules as we go, and nobody said we couldn’t, and it fit the theme, and I’m probably bigger than you anyway so deal. Anyway, this is a song by Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone, a fine man who has recently been made more than a little homeless by a certain Hurricane that shall Not Be Named. He wrote this song about his younger days when about the only thing he owned was some musical instruments and a motorcycle. If you happen to see Johnny somewhere (last I heard he was playing up in Toronto or thereabouts) tell him hi from the wacky guy in Texas. He might even remember me.
  2. Attitude & Driving (Live)
Um, cuz it is. Life, that is. It’s all attitude and driving.
  3. Nerf Herder - Buffy The Vampire Slayer Theme
This song so reminds me of trying to use the little on-ramps onto Central Expressway in Dallas (they’ve rebuilt it now, but it used to be Attempted Suicide just getting on the freeway)
  4. Hard Drivin’ Man
Cuz I love it, that’s why. This is the live version, too. (oh, wait, in case you didn’t know, it’s J. Geils.)
  5. Drivin All Night Long
Another Jack Ingram song, cuz well, he seems to know more than a little about driving.
  6. Beer Run (live at lynaughs)
Another cheat, I’m sure I’ve sent this one out before. Todd Snider. Couple frat guys on a road trip. My kids love this (we sang it on the way to church last time)
  7. Arrested for Driving While Blind
ZZ Top before, well, before many of y’all were born.
  8. 30,000 Pounds of Bananas
Sorry, Recipient, this one is a little long, but I love listening to it on the road. And one of these days I’m gonna go down the hill into Scranton, Pennsylvania.
  9. 18 Wheels on a Big Rig
If you have kids? This will help them learn how to count. Or drive you bonkers, since they’ll want to listen to it over and over again. If you don’t have kids? Inflict this song on somebody who does.
  10. White Freightliner Blues
    Ah, yes.
  11. Gimme Some Lovin’
You know, sitting here, I’m afraid I might have nixed this one from the final mix. (oops) But it’s another road trip song, if I left it on there. Remember Stevie was only a teen when he sang this song.
  12. Car Wheels On A Gravel Road
Because it’s about car wheels, on a gravel road. How much more “driving” can you get?
  13. Dixie Diner
Another road trip song. You might remember Fingers as the harpoon man for Jimmy Buffett for many, many years. Have no idea where he is now. Jimmy went ahead and re-recorded lots of his classics, without harmonica, I guess so he didn’t have to think about his old friend anymore.
  14. 45 Miles
Todd Snider and the Nervous Wrecks (that part is important, he doesn’t play with the Wrecks much anymore, so catch them if you can). It’s a song about just getting to wherever the hell you’re going.
  15. L.A. Freeway
JJW. What else can I say?
  16. Hey, Little Minivan
    Yes, I still dream.
  17. Radar Gun
Bot Rox, another ultimate road trip song.
  18. Hot Rod Lincoln
My father said “son, you’re gonna drive me to drinkin’” They’ve got that right…
  19. The Pascagoula Run
Buffett again, and yet another tribute so something that has been changed forever by She who Must Not Be Named

Well, um, that’s it.
