Fall is coming, according to the calendar and the back to school advertising bombarding my mailbox. Fall fashions! Winter clothes! Except that makes little sense, living where “winter’ usually means a week or three below 50 degrees and the odd few days here and there at or below freezing. I remember as a kid playing on Christmas day in shorts and a t-shirt with our new football in the yard, so this isn’t simply global climate change taking hold, it’s just not a very winter-y place that I live.
That said, fall seems as good a time as any to learn a new habit and pick up some new practices. I love this post about early rising from Leo Babauta. Excellent points here and lots to think about and try to absorb into my routine.
Recently, reader Rob asked me about my habit of waking at 4:30 a.m. each day, and asked me to write about the health benefits of rising early, which I thought was an excellent question. Unfortunately, there are none, that I know of.
However, there are a ton of other great benefits.
joy in your face before your eyes are open is energizing in it’s own right. No, I prefer the world sleep or relax and not start with the whirling dervishes of the day, they’ll come soon enough.
I’m working on my priorities:
- Exercise
- Meditation
- Organization and routine home maintenance
- Finding peace.
- Sharing with others.
They change a bunch. It happens, there isn’t a manual for how to change things, no instructor monk that will come and slash my grade or make me stay late picking up trash. This is for me, this helps fill some of the empty spaces created during my spectacular meltdown these recent years.
