let’s talk about Opera

Well, I make no secret that I use Opera as my web browser. I used to use Netscape, and tried Firefox for a while, but keep coming back to Opera.

Download Opera

I get hits rather frequently, mostly because I’ve mentioned Opera and Gmail. (wanna invite? Just lemme know. Got lots). And also just so you know, if 250 people click on my opera banner, they’ll give me a free license. Which is nice, but I already paid for a license (you can have a free version that puts google ads on it or you can pay and lose the ads, I paid a long time ago and never regretted it)

Opera works great with Gmail. In bold so it stands out. It didn’t use to, but now it does. I’m running version 8, but it worked ok with version 7.5, too, IIRC.

Opera works better with Gmail than it does with Yahoo mail, which is what I’ve been using for years. Yahoo ‘advanced’ searches won’t work with opera (Yahoo will tell you to upgrade your browser), gmail searches work great. So with Yahoo you can search for a word in the subject line but not in the body of the message. Of course Gmail you get to search your mail with a google interface.

Opera has a built-in e-mail client which I have configured for my gmail account, so when you write to me it pops up in my browser and I can reply from there or go to Gmail if I want to do nifty other things with the mail. Yahoo picture mail won’t work (I don’t even know what that is, but I guess it might be tied to flickr) You can configure any POP mail, or whatever. (Yahoo you have to pay to get POP access to your mail, Gmail it’s free)

Opera has fun things like skins to change the look and configurable toolbars and you can quickly turn off images (so pages load faster and your boss doesn’t know you are checking out boobies while at work)

There’s more but I don’t have time to write it all down now, so I’ll add to this later. If you want to hear from people that really know Opera, check out their site and look around. It’s all good.
