If you give a caveman a cell phone…

Argh. I hate deciding on things like cell phone plans.

We have a Cingular account; came with two phones. With tax and other nonsense it’s about $56 a month. We don’t use it that much, mostly to call each other (“Are you getting which kid?”) or to leave as an emergency number with the babysitter, etc.

My wife’s phone (Nokia) has a dying battery, so I need to replace the battery. That started me thinking on all the super deals they seem to offer on phone service – should we switch? Our contract was up a long time ago. Cingular bugs us constantly to renew but I haven’t felt like messing with it.

We used to have Sprint, which was OK but the signal quality here in town sucked and the phone broke and they refused to help get it fixed (“Sorry they don’t make that one anymore. We have new ones starting at $149.99…”) Cingular signal is MUCH better around town but has started going downhill at home (I think they must have lost a tower in a storm or something).

T-mobile has cool commercials. Verizon has a crappy signal at work (my co-workers have to leave the building to take/make calls). What’s a caveman to do?

And WTF is bluetooth?

PS: my wife said “NO” to Nextel / walkie talkie thing. She just won’t go that route. I thought it’d be cool, and said so, which got me the Evil Look so I don’t think it’ll work out.
