My so-called DSL…

Yeah, I’m bored with it too. Here’s the latest:

Back in January they sent me an e-mail saying “Go, use your new DSL!” It didn’t work.
My “turned on” date was Feb. 2. It didn’t work.
They sent a new modem, which arrived Friday. It didn’t work.
They called three times while I was at church yesterday (gone for what, an hour and a half?) to say they were referring it to a local office but “keep watching the DSL light, if it stays on you can connect to the internet.”

Say it with me: it didn’t work.

(I’m seriously thinking of just buying a router but then I have to keep cable so I can afford my cable modem. The idea of dumping the cable modem is a) it’s cheaper for DSL in our town and 2) I could get rid of cable and go to Direct TV since one reason I have cable is it is a prerequisite for the cable modem)

Denied

Yeah, I waited. They said “February 2.”

They said “After 6:00 PM”

That’s when I was supposed to get with the 90’s and have my DSL activated.

Guess what? Really, guess?

I get the exact same response I did on Saturday, when I tried to follow their e-mailed instructions. In other words, nothing.

So tonight, after spending even more quality time on the phone with tech support, they decided they would send me a new modem “since everything looks okay from here.”

Gee, thanks. And they even tried to tell me the “good news”, that it was under warranty so there would be no charge!

I certainly hope it’s under warranty, since I just opened the box, and the service just came on February 2. At 6:00 PM.

Grrrr.

Followup: we do have a cable modem, at home, so I understand some of the joys of broadband. But what I want is the wireless broadband, and the ability to use more than one computer at a time (the new service has a 4 port router/modem) so I don’t have to wait for my wife to finish a powerpoint to blog and vice versa…
