Just thinking out loud here.
I sometimes pick up little obsessions, things I can’t stop thinking about. It could be an upcoming movie, or a certain type of food (let’s call that one a craving), a place to go, whatever.
These interests don’t usually last. I guess some do – blogging was one. I started writing my thoughts nearly eight years ago, on May 18th 2004. (there’s the 18th again, ha). Who knew I would still be blabbing now?
Some other things I have picked up and put back down over the many years: cycling. soccer. harmonica. guitar (back in high school). photography.
When my world turned upside down a year ago, I sorta revisited some of these things. My guitar amplifier that I received as a gift in 9th or 10th grade is broken, but I have it in a closet (my wife was ready to throw it out but I figured it could be fixed, it’s just some cut wires. Ask my son how that happened). (Or don’t). Anyway, my guitars – one of which I have had since I was 12, are in another closet.
I bought a harmonica on sale from amazon one day because I was buying something else and needed some extra to meet the ‘free shipping’ rule. Never mind the pile of harmonicas I left behind when I moved out.
Last summer I bought a DSLR, with the idea of taking a photography class. The last and only photography class I have taken was back when we had a film camera and I learned how to work in a darkroom and enlarge black and white photos. Something that is gone now (the darkrooms, that is). So I have this camera and it is sitting in a closet because now I realize just how precarious my financial situation is – I could not afford a class, and really can’t afford to have the camera, so now I wonder if I should try and sell it or if I’m Really Serious about wanting to take decent pictures.
Here’s one I shot with my phone the other day:

So why am I rambling? As ever, just trying to think things through. This post wsa inspired because I heard that we are getting a Guitar Center here in town. Not that we don’t already have excellent music stores.
I wonder sometimes if I focused, really focused, on a hobby or something, I would have less time to sit on my butt and watch TV, which is how I fill in my free time right now.
Hmm.
Dang, but you took such a great photo with your phone (related: she is growing up to be a beauty) I would love to see, what you see, looking through the lens of a camera. Then again, a picture from your phone, every now and again, will do just fine, thankyouverymuch!
Aww, THANK YOU very much! I’m very proud of this picture. She is growing up very fast indeed 😛
I’ll see what I can do; I love to take pictures (when the kids were younger it was pretty annoying as I was always sticking a camera in everyone’s business). Thanks again for the huge compliment.
