Yeah, I waited. They said “February 2.”

They said “After 6:00 PM”

That’s when I was supposed to get with the 90’s and have my DSL activated.

Guess what? Really, guess?

I get the exact same response I did on Saturday, when I tried to follow their e-mailed instructions. In other words, nothing.

So tonight, after spending even more quality time on the phone with tech support, they decided they would send me a new modem “since everything looks okay from here.”

Gee, thanks. And they even tried to tell me the “good news”, that it was under warranty so there would be no charge!

I certainly hope it’s under warranty, since I just opened the box, and the service just came on February 2. At 6:00 PM.

Grrrr.

Followup: we do have a cable modem, at home, so I understand some of the joys of broadband. But what I want is the wireless broadband, and the ability to use more than one computer at a time (the new service has a 4 port router/modem) so I don’t have to wait for my wife to finish a powerpoint to blog and vice versa…

FYI:

When you get an e-mail with the subject Your Verizon Online DSL Is Ready

and stuff like

“Don’t wait another minute! Set up your DSL service today and make this the last day you have to use dial-up. You’ll be exploring more, downloading more and achieving more online with your new DSL connection.”

Um, not really.

Hint: go online using your other computer as soon as you can, and dig around to find the 800 number, call it, hit the 37.2 different prompts to tell them your operating system and such, then tell the nice lady your phone number, and let her check everything and finally tell you that what the e-mail really meant was on February 2 it will be ready. After 6:00 PM.
