It’s a form to sign up for the web feed via e-mail.
Yeah, I have too many subscriptions, too, but some folks don’t use an RSS feed. I won’t give your e-mail address to anybody (I use Feedburner for my feeds, and they’ll hook you up, and you can unsubscribe, yada yada yada). Right now I have exactly one subscription - me - and I use it to make sure the daily digest is legible. It sometimes is

hmmm. I put in my email address, clicked Subscribe. A new window popped up telling me to login, and then the main window was taken over, redirected to Feedburner, then I had to enter a word verification. It 1) took me away from your site, and 2) I have to activate a subscription. hmmmm. Is that how it’s supposed to work? Just my two cents, but I’m joined on so many things, I don’t want to join anything else!

I use feedburner for my RSS feed alredy (if you go to the bottom and click the RSS icon, it redirects you behind the scenes through Feedburner, but it’s just my content).
The e-mail option delivers a daily digest instead, for folks that aren’t hooked on RSS. Not me. But I’m trying to see if it’s worth doing. The validation code is to keep spambots from signing up, I guess.
