I hope y’all had an awesome weekend. Â Me? Â It’s good to be a dad. Â This entry managed to get away from me and get really long, so clicky if you wanna read it…
Yesterday was my baby’s third birthday. Â I realized as I was lugging her around the pool that it won’t be long until I can’t refer to her as a “baby” anymore. Â But – she’ll always be my baby. Â (Insert obligatory “Dirty Dancing” reference here)
Yes, she’s three. Â We had cake! Â We had presents! Â We didn’t really invite anybody else (whoops, it sorta snuck up on us) and nobody at our house seemed to mind. Â I have some great pictures. Â In our camera. Â Which is, somewhere. Â I’m sure you understand. Â Full report sometime soon.
By sheer coincidence, it was also Father’s Day, and my kids dutifully handed me the gift bag my wife made for me, with the MP3 player I bought for myself weeks ago from Amazon and then immediately felt bad about spending money so I told my wife that they could give it to me for Father’s Day. Â Is that a runon sentence? Â Is that how you spell “run on”? Â Dunno.
The MP3 player is cool, it also has a radio in it, and it’ll run for like 4 days straight on a single battery, and has a complicated fifty page instruction book (and eight of the pages are in a language I can read). I also got a cool “Super Dad” shirt, which I will model for the internets if I get any requests.
We went swimming yesterday, and also Saturday, and it was great. Â Â A little stressful because the pool was really crowded with some really rowdy kids/teens/adults for a while, but then things mellowed out. Â My oldest son and I practiced floating. Â Yes, just floating. Â Tuning everything out, lying on your back, and floating. Â I have a hard time thinking of anything better to spend time practicing. Â The baby spent most of her time sliding and heading for water that was almost over her head (it’s funny to see her mouth underwater, with a HUGE grin, as she breathes through her nose and bounces on her feet so she can stay up). Â And before anyone gets alarmed, I was right there (two feet away) and watching like a hawk, but she did this over. and. over. so there was no point in stopping her – she really enjoyed playing in the water, and is very comfortable doing so.
We saw Nacho Libre on Friday, and I’ll need to do a seperate review. Â Let’s just say that I think I need some stretchy pants now. Â And is it ok to lust after a nun? Â Just checking.
Saturday afternoon, while I was swimming with two of the kids, my wife grilled steak, chicken, sausage (italian and BBQ), zuccini, and corn of the cob. Â It was even better than it sounds. Â And I’m so sorry, we didn’t save any leftovers. Â Maybe next time?
Speaking of good food (I was), I weighed 267.6 this morning. Â Down from 290, but up from my 2006 low of 267.2 on Saturday morning.
Oh, and I watched the first hour of Match Point last night before falling asleep. Â I’m still in lust over Scarlett Johansson. Â So much so that I can even spell her name. Â Yum. Â (you’re safe, Scarlett, I’m married)
And in the end the US managed to tie Italy in soccer (“football” to you civilized types). Â So that was pretty impressive. Â Hopefully they can stay alive to the second round, but I really don’t think they stand a chance against the likes of Brazil. Â We shall see, you never know. Â At least they didn’t fall down like they did their first match.
That’s about it, I suppose…
Sounds like you had an awesome weekend! CONGRATS!! I know what you mean about the littlest one always being your baby…she’s such a cutie! She did all that in the water and you didn’t have a heart-attack?! ACK…scary LOL. And I am totally for you modeling the dad shirt!
We need to see the shirt. Show us the shirt!!
We recently rented Match Point. It was pretty good. If you haven’t seen Derailed I highly recommend it. I didn’t really want to see it but it was great. And congrats on the weight, even though it was a big holiday you only gained .4. I think that is impressive. Oh, and Mir, I see you commenting on BEN’S blog. Hmfph! *snicker**snicker*
Mmmm sounds yummy. the bar b que that is!
It was!
I was at a local store (one that I don’t normally shop at, because I was in the ‘hood) and bought a couple of steaks to cook over the weekend, since it was father’s day and all. And I was talking to the guy and he mentioned they had italian sausage and BBQ links that they made up there in the store.
He ended up giving me one of each to try “since you’ll be grilling anyway”. I’m going back for more since the baby ate most of an italian link all by herself and I only had one bite. The BBQ was a little spicy but we liked it that way.
Also, I’m not complaining about the weight, that’s down four from last monday (and six from last saturday) so I’ll take it in a heartbeat.
Yay! Weight loss! Yay! New shirt!
Show us the shirt! Show! Show!
Model the shirt while holding your new toy.
I’m glad you had a great weekend! We went boating, so my hubby was happy too!
The youngest is always a Baby. I still call Bell the Baby & she will be 5 in August.
Match Point was a good movie, but long. I was surprised with the ending & I normally know the ending in movies.
