Happy Christmas

Here’s the playlist for my Christmas CD. I wrote it down this time, aren’t ya proud? I actually wrote this a couple weeks ago, and am just re-posting it without reading it again (hope I didn’t screw anything up)

  • Alabama – Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
My son LOVES this song, so it just had to come first. I have it on my cellphone as a ringtone.
  • Doobie Brothers – Jesus Is Just Alright
This should go without saying, especially this time of year…
  • Chuck Berry – Run Rudolph Run
It isn’t Christmas without some Chuck Berry. Yes, I’m in therapy, why?
  • Evangeline – Let’s Go Spend Your Money Honey
This is in honor of maxed – out credit cards everywhere.
  • Nick Lowe – (What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding
  • Robert Earl Keen – Merry Christmas From The Family
If you’re from around here, this song sounds more like a documentary than a joke. Everyone has been to at least one of these gatherings at some poing. Some of us have escaped them, for now…
  • Todd Snider – Somebody’s Coming
Besides just being a cool song, I got this stuck in my head while watching something about Santa. I hope it gets stuck in your head, too.
  • Chicago – Make Me Smile
    Another reason for the season.
  • Harry Chapin – Cat’s in the Cradle
I don’t wanna get too deep, but I think I’ve got issues with my dad and it’s fucking up my relationship with my kids. But it’s also a cool song. Miss ya, Harry.
  • Rodney Crowell – Still Learning how to Fly
One of the greatest songwriters walking the planet. This was recorded in Dublin, I think. I should listen to this tune more often.
  • Elvis Presley – Merry Christmas Baby
    Elvis. Elves. Get it?
  • Jumpin’ Johnny Sansone – Anything Anytime
This dude could be Santa. He’s really cool (really, I know the cat). He also sorta-kinda had his New Orleans house washed away while he was out of town. Like a half million other people. So if you see him playing near you, go listen, buy a cd or two, tell him the whack job in Texas still thinks about him.
  • Todd Snider – I Spoke as a Child
This song tugs at my heart like few other songs do. Pay attention, it’s important.
  • Trout Fishing in America – Mine!
If you have kids, and maybe if you don’t, this song will ring true. Especially on Christmas.
  • Todd Snider – All of My Life
  • Ruthie Foster – The fight
    Don’t give up. Ever.
