game on

Our soccer game was on Saturday morning. You know it is spring when you get sunburned at 10 AM.

Anyway, I had six guys show up (one was camping this weekend) and we play four at a time. First quarter I had my son sit out, since he missed both practices this week (school trouble). I am not thrilled about coaching at this point. I’m very torn sometimes. But it was the right thing to do, he got in trouble at school I(big time) so I wouldn’t take him to practice.

Anyway, the two teams traded goals (we scored in the first minute). Then the other guys scored like three unanswered points. It was hard to stay upbeat and positive when you’re getting pummeled, but hey, we’re here to have fun. Throughout the game there were several very close shots – just wide of the net, which was a little frustrating for them.

My son went in second quarter, and played that and third quarter (till he took himself out since he was winded and thirsty). I put him back in at the end since the other kids were tired, too, and he said he was rested.

The game was tied at the very end, and one of their guys tripped one of mine just before they scored, so it didn’t count. The referee would just barely blow his wistle when there was an incident, so the parents far across the field didn’t know why he was calling back the goal. Regardless, it kept us tied, and we snatched the ball and my son ran the length of the field and scored just before the whistle to end the game.

Ten to nine was the final score, and my kids couldn’t be happier. My son scored seven points, so he was pretty much on cloud nine (like me). Now, what are the odds I’ll get him to go to practice this week if he can play that well without it?
