We were driving home Saturday night and my son just about jumped out of his seat.
“Look, mommy, they have a TV outside!”
He had just seen his first drive-in theater. We all agreed that sometime we would make the trip to see a movie. I think it’s kinda sad that we’ll have to drive over two hours just to go see a movie.
When I was a lad, of course, the drive in was all the rage. It was cheap – they had dollar night at ours, plus you could pay one price for your car and as many people as you could cram inside. You could bring your own refreshments. And it was usually a double feature (something my kids have no concept about, having never been to one)
I also remember long ago taking my girlfriend / now wife to the drive in to see “Flashdance.” I wanted to do.. things and she wanted badly to see the movie, since it was filmed in and around Pittsburgh where she grew up. I don’t remember what the second feature was.
