Another song of the day, inspired by the lovely Mindy. I truly cannot say enough great things about this woman that I will likely never meet, but has somehow managed to get through to me in some way. I guess maybe I can say that I understand a fraction of what she might be going through, even if through an entirely different set of lenses. Cheers, girl.
SAME RIVER TWICE
The water flows by this holy place
and I am anointed here
But when I come back to get my fill
I find It’s disappeared
Wound through these hills and these valleys
Far from these yearnings of mine
Past the most modest of my expectations
Around the world in timeYou can’t step into the same river twice
You can’t step into the same river twiceAll we have are these moments
And memories of moments we’ve had
And if I’d lost this song today
I wouldn’t feel that bad
Cause I remember that moment
As real as the love in the air
And I might like to remember that moment
But I can’t go back thereYou can’t step into the same river twice
You can’t step into the same river twiceI know what happens when two people are as one
The heavens open when love has begun
I know what happens when all is said and done
We’re left to contemplate
and live in this new moment’s sun
and love from this new moment on…….You can’t step into the same river twice
You can’t step into the same river twice
It’s a tune by Darryl Purpose. I’ve had the pleasure to meet him a few times, and listen to him sing. Unforgettable. Chances are he’ll wind up near you at some time; if you see him tell him we still sing along back here in College Station. Follow the link to see lyrics to other songs from the same album (I particularly recommend “Last Great Kiss of the 20th Century” and “Mr. Schwinn” and “Singer Songwriter Heaven”, if I had to pick)
Darryl’s home page with gigs and you can buy stuff or e-mail him.
