Taking a huge leap

The last couple of days I’ve posted some pictures. Pictures that cause me to get extremely emotional just to look at them.

They are pictures from my new apartment. Mine. As in, mine alone. After 28 years, I am no longer with my wife.

(it took me almost an hour to type the previous two paragraphs. As if typing them somehow makes everything more real. Oh, shit’s real, all right)

I will not give tiny details about what happened. It takes two to have a relationship. Over time, years, I felt the distance between us grow and finally realized it had become too much. I can’t say how she felt. I tried to talk, to close the gap, to do something, but in the end it was too much.

And then I broke her heart. She insisted I leave immediately. So a few days later I spent my first night truly alone since I was a teenager.

This is going to take some getting used to.

Mutter Trucker

Unconscious Mutterings, Week 437

Free association is described as a “psychonanalytic procedure in which a person is encouraged to give free rein to his or her thoughts and feelings, verbalizing whatever comes into the mind without monitoring its content.” Over time, this technique is supposed to help bring forth repressed thoughts and feelings that the person can then work through to gain a better sense of self.
