coming back to life

It’s no big secret, I’ve been a little down at times. Especially lately. This is no small transition I’m going through. I’m not wanting sympathy or “you can do it” – that’s what I pay my therapist for, LOL, I just wanted to write down a few things I’m doing to change things.

Number one thing is trying to just be me and not worry about things that I can’t control. Yeah, I said “control.” It’s a thing of mine, apparently, wanting to influence things that I honestly cannot. Let’s just call this one a work in progress.

I went out! To a bar! Yeah, I was alone, and only talked to the bartender, (and they talked to me because hey it’s their job and there may have been money involved) but there was music and beer and stuff. Definitely want to try that again soon.

I’ve volunteered at a local non-profit. It’ll be occasional weekend or evening stuff, that I can easily do around my work schedule. But it’ll be nice – I get to use my sparkling personality and quick wit to help out some nice folks.

I found a guy on Yelp that has over 1,000 reviews, mostly local, and started a list of “places I want to visit.” I’m in no hurry to visit them all, but it’s nice to have a list of interesting sounding restaurants or shops, so when I have a little too much free time I can explore my own town a little. And yelp is a little addicting, once you start clicking on reviews you just find more reviews. Funny that 😛

I have some more ideas, too, but I’m not going to list them all, I may need future blog fodder.

  1. Yelp is in your town? If you’re looking for places to try, I just learned that the younger brother of a friend is opening a restaurant called Katsuya in what I call Culpepper Plaza, but is now apparently “the shopping center with KOHL’s.”

I get sucked in to the in-law-vortex when we’re there, so rarely make it west of the bypass.

    1. Awesome! I’ll look for it. It’s also “the shopping center with Spec’s” LOL.

Next time, break free of the inlaws and I can buy you a coffee or something. Thanks 🙂

      1. I don’t think any of the former anchor stores from my youth are still there. No Safeway (turned Appletree), Hastings moved, Eckerd’s, Bennigan’s…. oh, I even worked at KidsMart for a few months.

Thanks for the offer — will let you know when we’re back in town.

  2. They split Appletree and part of it is now Spec’s 🙂 I remember Hastings there and absolutely despised driving through the parking lot at the time. BTW I live a mile from there and have for 15 years (just now at a slightly different address)

You have an open invitation, just gotta let me know when you are here 😀
