So much for the “easy”

My son is playing football this year for the first time.

You know, smash-mouth football.

So you have to get a physical before things get going, and since
practice starts this week (see my “Jesus it’s hot out here” tweets
from yesterday), he went to his pediatrician today.

Just get the form so he can play, right?

Uh, no. We now have a cardiology referral, and he’s borderline
hypertensive. Oh, and check his cholesterol, too.

I’m trying hard not to freak the hell out, I don’t want him to see
that. But shit.

  1. the technology they have to detect and manage these things is awesome now. so it’s a good thing to have to go through in the long run. not very encouraging right now, and scary as heck, I’m sure, but be thankful you are able to provide all those for him. And ditto Mir and Kirsis — hope things turn out to be a bunch of stuff about nothing.

  2. Thanks, y’all!

So far, we had some blood drawn today for a cholesterol screen and some kidney tests.

Appt. with a cardiologist is pending. I did not let him go to 100 degree F football practice yesterday, just in case.

I think he was just extremely tense at the doctor and that screwed up his BP and stuff, but we’ll run through all the tests to be sure. I’m also worried that medicine he takes may be putting his blood pressure too high, but we’ll sort through that with the rest.

Finally, my email seems to not be telling me when y’all comment, sorry I haven’t responded to each of you like I try to do most of the time, unless I don’t or can’t. I appreciate the support! :grinnod:
