Hi y’all! And thank you for all the e-mails and comments regarding the 5K on Saturday morning.
- I finished
- It was tough
- It was hottt
- My time was 37 minutes and something
- I finished at the same time as a 72 year old man
- But he didn’t look a day over sixty
- I’d like to do another one, but feel perhaps I need to train some more first
Thanks again. We have been out of town (I just spent nearly five hours of quality time with the kids in the van driving home) and right now laundry and a few other chores call.
My wife? Bless her heart (thank you for reminding of that, Brighton), took pictures. When I find the camera I’ll share the horror.

Kudos on doing the 5k! I did one earlier this year (with absolutely no pre-training) and it tied me into knots. I later found out that a 60+ year old woman I know beat my time by a significant amount just walking (and I was doing a combination of jogging and walking).

37 minutes is an excellent first race!!! I’m very proud of you. I hope you are really basking in your accomplishment. Don’t downplay it at all Ben… you are amazing!!! Think of all those overweight men who never move their can out from behind the remote and off the couch! You did it! In the heat. On a weekend. And you ran 3.1 miles!!!!

I am thinking of doing a 5K - what advice would you give a newbie such as myself now you have done it?
