Such a phony

(yes, I’m still out of town.  I wrote this like a month ago and set it to post so things wouldn’t be toooo quiet here)

My lovely cellular provider has allowed me a “free upgrade phone”, which means that for only $50 (to activate the damn thing) I can pick a new phone.

Right now I have a Nokia regular boring phone. It makes and receives calls, which last time I looked is pretty much what you want a phone to do.  The other day I was at the mall or something and saw a “razor” phone (spelling?)  – now that looks cool.  And?  Breakable.

Any thoughts, oh wise internets?  What kind of phone should I get?

I’ll tell you something I don’t need – I don’t need text messaging or music.  I know, I know, it’s hard to believe – but I sit in front of a computer for at least nine hours a day.  If I haven’t “messaged” enough during that time, I just don’t. need. to.  And music?  I have a music player.  Don’t need it tied in to my phone.

Other than that, I’m open.

  1. Text messaging on the cell is wonderful! You can communicate in the movie theater, meetings and even church. You use it when it’s too quiet to talk or too loud to hear. Your spouse can send a grocery list to make sure you don’t forget. It allows you to blog when you are away from the computer. You DO want text messaging.

  2. I think I have text messaging but I have no idea how to use it. I’m like you, I just want the phone to do um, regular phone stuff.

My brother (child-less, heck all my siblings are child-less) has a Razor and it’s neat to look at but I can just imagine my kids bending too far and *snap!*

  3. I do not remember (and am currently too lazy to look), did you ever get yourself the PDA you wanted? If not (of if you feel like unloading the PDA on eBay or the like), you could go with something like the Treo, the Audiovox (or Siemens depending on your cell provider) PocketPC phone.

Allows you to reduce the number of toys you need to carry around.

Going back to the Razr (correct spelling) or other bluetooth phone, the big benefit is that you can keep the phone in it’s holster, shirt pocket, whatever and never have to actually take it out, since you can answer it right from the Bluetooth headset (just something to consider).
