We finally have a new movie theater. Â It opens today. Â 16 glorious brand new screens.
Guess what movies they have playing? Â C’mon, guess?
Give up already? Â (I admit, I haven’t given any clues, but it’s why I’m bummed)
The exact same movies that are playing at our existing theater.  Variety, much?
Every. Single. One of them.
Now, this may not seem that important to you, who might live in an area where you can visit more than one movie theater.  But the last time our existing theater had any competition was back when Harry Potter (the first one) came out, and that was from an old theater that tried doing dollar movies and then tried to compete with the likes of Harry Potter and couldn’t keep up.  So we (okay, I) have been itching to get a new theater so we’d have more than the top ten movies playing and hopefully keep some movies more than three weeks so if you don’t get around to seeing it you’ll have a chance.  The new theater has DaVinci and Over the Hedge since they open this week, and of course The Wild, RV, Scary Movie 4, and Mission Impossible, all of which have been out for a little while.
As time to DVD gets shorter, and movie attendance continues to be down (because of the lack of quality movies), this trend is going to continue. I have within about 6 or 7 miles of my house, a quad cinema, a six-plex, an eight-plex and a uber 16 plex. Guess what! Same thing going on here too.
We’ve got a zillion-plex opening in the fall here. We already have a 15-plex and a 12-plex within two miles of each other. The 8-plex is now a dollar theater with 50 cent Tuesdays. I don’t go anyway. I’m still sticking with Netflix. I love watching it on our big screen and sitting on my comfy sofa, where we can talk and/or pause to wrangle the girls. Last time I went to the movies, I went to see the first X-Men movie and I was pregnant. Can’t remember with which one of my daughters. Um…Well crap. I spent nearly six years either pregnant or nursing, so my memory’s shot. Before I had the girls, the last movie I saw in the theater was ‘Titanic’. Pretty sad, eh?
We have one movie theater in over a thirty mile radius.
One.
It plays three movies on three screens…one large, two small.
You guessed right, we own a LOT of DVD’s.
