One of many. And this happened about five minutes ago.
My eldest was a baby when he came to live with us. Among the charges against his mom was “neglectful supervision” and “risk of neglect.”
He had a couple of visits with his mom after he came to live with us (he was still a foster placement at that point) and one visit just before Easter she brought him a white chocolate easter bunny. He was three months old at the time and had, well, no teeth, but we graciously accepted said bunny on his behalf.
Every year since then, he has received a white chocolate easter bunny. The Easter Bunny? He remembers these details. Other kids in our house get regular chocolate easter bunnies (mom received a Dove chocolate easter bunny this year) but only my firstborn gets a white chocolate easter bunny.
Tonite, he opened the white chocolate easter bunny. I don’t really think he likes white chocolate, but it’s a big deal to him since it is his. At one point… he set it down.
The dog, all 100 pounds of her, can move incredibly fast when there is food involved. She snagged that bunny and made a beeline with it to her refuge under the kitchen table.
Much sadness ensued.
But nothing bad happened, since my younger son immediately said “You can have mine!” and handed it over.
I just about cried. I’ve never seen my kids being so nice to each other. It’s not the sugar, is it?
