So we’re sitting in church and the whole day is pretty much tailored around this particular Biblical verse:
Matthew 25:40 I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it unto me.
At the end the recessional song is “Whatsoever you do.” I remember this from when I was like five, the song is pretty much like the verse, but put to music.
Only now, not any more. Now they are crooning “Whatsoever you do, to the least of my people, that you do unto me.”
It just didn’t sound right. But at the same time it gave me hope. If, after thousands of years, the church thinks it is better to say “people” instead of “brothers” so as not to offend the women that make up at least half of the congregation (but why not say “family?” What’s wrong with that?), then maybe in another thousand years or two they will admit that perhaps homosexuality isn’t so bad. I ain’t holding my breath.
