On the porch

One year gotcha anniversary. We love you Fifi!

update: I hope I’m using the “gotcha day” correctly. She came to live with us one year ago. For several weeks ahead of that time, we had visits with her and her foster family, and disussions with the Powers that Be. The adoption will be final (soon, I hope) and maybe I can fill in her backstory, so to speak.

Meanwhile, have I ever said why we call her Fifi? (not her real name)

The entry I didn’t post last night

For some reason I was wide awake at 2 AM. And of course, everyone else is pretty much asleep, as they should be.

And my mind is so freakin’ literal, that all I could do was think of a song. Over and over. And it got so bad I almost went into the office to boot the computer and post it.

Almost.

Somewhere in a lonely hotel room there’s a guy starting to realize that eternal fate has turned its back on him. It’s 2AM.

It’s 2AM – it’s 2 AM
The fear is gone – the fear is gone
I’m sittin’ here waiting – I’m sittin’ here waiting
The gun’s still warm – the gun’s still warm
Thinking my connection is tired of taking chances

Yeah, there’s a storm on the loose, sirens in my head
Wrapped up in silence, all circuits are dead
Cannot decode – my whole life spins into a frenzy

{Refrain}

Help, I’m stepping into the Twilight Zone
The place is a mad-house, feels like being cloned
My beacon’s been moved under moon and star
Where am I to go now that I’ve gone too far

{Repeat}

Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone
Soon you will come to know
When the bullet hits the bone

Putty Tat update

I know you’ve all been on pins and needles wondering what’s going on.

We took the troops up to the vet last night, to talk with the doc and look at the x-rays. She (the vet) feels it is worth giving him a few days to see how he does. To put it bluntly, we can always euthanize later, but we can’t do the opposite.

So he’s home now, he has the hall bathroom (which was always his, at night), food and water. He does not appear to be in pain (they gave him pain killers before we left the vet, that may be why) and seems content to sit and purr. But time will tell. He needs to be eating and drinking some (and I’m not seeing much of either) to keep his strength up.

The deal with where the breaks are – there are plenty of muscles around which should hold the bones in place so they can heal. Those muscles are also surrounded by some majorly important blood vessels and nerves which make surgery risky at best. It’s better for him just to wait and see how he heals.

The kids were excited to bring him home, until we were about halfway when they all decided “he stinks” and tried to vote him off the island then and there. We said no, you have to wait for the next tribal council.
