I got better.

Now, I’m not one to pitch a fit. Usually. I’m the “quiet one” with all of the plusses and minuses that go with it.

But when I take off work, and go home, for my “three hour repair window,” only to find out I’m not even listed in their computer (”I’m sorry, I can’t find the eight digit number that we e-mailed you in our confirmation YESTERDAY in our computer”) then I get a little, er, testy.

So I was testy on the phone for half an hour. And they said somebody will call shortly, and five minutes later he did, and fifteen minutes after that he was at my house, and ten minutes later he had completed the work and bid me good day.

So, anyone else glad this is behind me now?

Feedburner junk:

mixed blessing

My little girl is sick. Not bad sick, but sick enough to miss daycare. She was acting like a zombie yesterday, and has a runny nose. That’s about it.

This morning she is trying to put shirts on as pants and getting frustrated if they don’t fit. She already has on two pair of shorts, so getting the third one on (especially a shirt that’s too small anyway) is just frustrating her.

So we’re home, so I’ll have a chance to clean the kitchen and stuff. And last night I managed to get Dell to agree to send me a new DVD drive. The bad news is they won’t be here today to install it, but tomorrow, so my day home isn’t really an advantage there. The worse news is they insist on sending another Phillips 8631, which I suspect is the problem all along (lots of people on the Dell forums have trouble with this burner) Grr.

On the plus side, my son went to school today with a huge smile on his face. I didn’t think I’d see that, not for a while. So that’s a good thing.

Off to the kitchen…

UPDATE July 29, 2005: This drive has performed well for countless reads and burns. Once in a great while I get an error when booting the machine that says something about not being able to find the drive, but then it boots and everything works fine anyway. So far, so good.

But do yourself a favor, don’t buy one. Get something better. The cost of burners has come down so much it’s silly to take a chance on getting a bad one.

lack of support

I’m gonna paraphrase Mir, here, and say Hypothetically I have a technical support person in “chat” mode from somewhere trying to help me with my Dell.

My baby is making more sense, though, and all she has is a plastic Home Depot jackhammer.
