pondering

When, exactly, does my family find the time to wear so. many. Clothes?

Ah, internets.

I had thought about live-blogging our bathroom remodel.

And the gods laughed. Oh, how they laughed.

For one thing, when you are covered in concrete dust and goop and
SWEAT, it may not be the best time to touch a keyboard. Also? When
your wife is covered in concrete dust and sweat more than you? Also
not a good time to be touching a keyboard, if you get my drift.

For another thing, who knew how freakin’ HARD this was going to be?
Certainly not me. Holy crap. I don’t think I’ve ever worked so hard
or been so tired. At least, not in the last 25 years or so.

More later, gotta go to work today. The tile is on the wall, grouting is next.

Putting this here, lest I forget

Day 1: (evening) start tearing out tub/shower surround
Day 2: finish tub/shower surround tear out, clean up as best we can
Day 3: demolish and remove to curb (five minutes before the trash man
arrives, go MOM) the tile on long wall
Day 4: plumbing for shower roughed in (by a real honest-to-god
plumber), bathtub removed with sledgehamers and hauled to curb, rent
scaler to tear out floor, work about five hours on THAT
Day 5: finish tear out of floor, return rental. Wait for window guys.
And wait. And then wait for them to finish. Go to store, buy tub
(heavy ass tub), odds and ends. Treat lumber (studs) with antimold
spray, cut and install new fiberglass insulation.

One of those days we went and bought the fixtures, I think it was day 1 or 2.

Not shown because it was part of the planning process: numerous trips
to stores to plan what tile, order a new vanity and linen cabinet
(special order, they’ll be here hopefully before school starts), etc.

Also not shown: collapse into bed every night.

I’m working today, then this afternoon plumbers are coming to help us
install the heavy ass tub.
