Bye, Kurt.

I wasn’t going to write anything, but after seeing it all over the web, I didn’t want to seem cold and inconsiderate, even though I probably am.

Kurt Vonnegut has passed away. He was only 84. One of the greatest American writers, I think. I read Catch-22 when I was in middle school and it warped me in ways that I’m only beginning to catch on about. Which, of course, was written by Joseph Heller 8) see what grief does to a person? (thanks, Udge!)

I posted an excellent piece by him almost three years ago, which is of course still true today. Also, from Boing, Boing, here is a link to an appearance he made on the Daily Show.

I’m extremely sad. =(

  1. Galapagos was printed my sophomore year of high school, and I was never without a copy of that, SH-5 and Catcher in the Rye actually on my person for several years after that. as he always said, “So it goes.”
