Riding in cars, with boys

“Dad! I saw a squirrel!

“Great honey!”

“It was a big squirrel!

“Ok”

“It was huge! It must have been a daddy squirrel!”

(not sure I like where this is going)

“It was so fat!”

“It had a huge bump, like yours stomach!”

They didn’t walk home. But I thought about it.

There he goes again!

Two years ago, tomorrow, our daughter came into our life.

It actually started before that, months, possibly before she was born. (gee, how traditional that sounds to plan a baby before they are born!) After our two boys, I really wanted a little girl. My wife? Not so much. She felt like we had our hands full with two (and she was right).

So, we did the Dance, again, with the agency. The updating of records, the home study, the interviews. We had a call that there was a baby available, would we be interested? Of course.

One morning we drove to visit with the workers, we read the case file (such as it was, there wasn’t much information), we said yes, we’d love to meet her. We drove across town, and there she was…

She hated me. She screamed any time I got near her. “That’s ok, she’s just not used to new people.” After a transition period, she came to live with us. This picture was taken at the park the next day (she wasn’t screaming because she was eating)

We’ve all grown a lot since then. And I couldn’t live without my princess.

too cute for words

So proud

So, how’s prosecuting the ‘war on terror’ going?

Just fucking great. See?

“In the annals of criminal law, I don’t know if there has ever been a case with this many significant problems.”

And this is trying to prosecute somebody that admitted to being involved in the Sept. 11 attacks. Yeah, we’re in good hands, people. Good hands.
