Such a phony

(yes, I’m still out of town.  I wrote this like a month ago and set it to post so things wouldn’t be toooo quiet here)

My lovely cellular provider has allowed me a “free upgrade phone”, which means that for only $50 (to activate the damn thing) I can pick a new phone.

Right now I have a Nokia regular boring phone. It makes and receives calls, which last time I looked is pretty much what you want a phone to do.  The other day I was at the mall or something and saw a “razor” phone (spelling?)  – now that looks cool.  And?  Breakable.

Any thoughts, oh wise internets?  What kind of phone should I get?

I’ll tell you something I don’t need – I don’t need text messaging or music.  I know, I know, it’s hard to believe – but I sit in front of a computer for at least nine hours a day.  If I haven’t “messaged” enough during that time, I just don’t. need. to.  And music?  I have a music player.  Don’t need it tied in to my phone.

Other than that, I’m open.

Kids make the funniest faces!

HPIM1379.JPGRecently, I actually cooked.  Will wonders never cease?  The microwave is growing jealous of the stove these days. I made an amazing dinner of baked chicken with a side of vegetables, since the girls and I wanted to surprise DH for his 31st birthday.  I also made a favorite dessert in our home: cherry-chocolate squares.  I thought for sure my daughters would eat whatever I put in front of them, knowing that they must finish their small portions before getting any dessert.  Halie (7), and Catie (5), quickly finished every bite (as did their father), and asked for dessert.  Rosie, on the other hand, scarfed down every morsel of vegetables, but left the chicken untouched. As the rest of us continued visiting over the dinner table, my two year old slid down from her booster chair and disappeared, only to reappear in the living room a few minutes later.  DH called out to her, “Rose, come sit down and eat this chicken.”  (when she hears ‘Rose‘, she knows we mean business)  Rosie walked into the kitchen, head hanging and shoulders slouched, climbed into her chair, looked at the chicken on her plate, gave a heavy *sigh*, and picked a bite up on her fork.  She studied the meat on the end of her fork for a moment before poking it into her mouth.  What happened in the few minutes afterward is best described by my husband:

“Rosie looks like she’s a contestant on Fear Factor trying to choke down horse rectum for the grand prize!”

I was laughing hard for a few minutes, but was finally able to say: “That’s blogworthy!”

We were born before the wind

Also younger than the sun
Ere the bonnie boat was won
as we sailed into the mystic

Hark, now hear the sailors cry
Smell the sea and feel the sky
Let your soul and spirit fly
into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows I will be coming home
And when that fog horn blows I want to hear it
I don’t have to fear it

I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
Then magnificently we will float
into the mystic

And when that fog horn blows you know I will be coming home
And when thst fog horn whistle blows I got to hear it
I don’t have to fear it

I want to rock your gypsy soul
Just like way back in the days of old
And together we will float
into the mystic

Come on girl…
