weekend update, part I

Friday and Saturday, so far:

  1. Date night last night, dinner and a movie. Awesome.
  2. Kids almost went to bed after (they were staying with a friend who loves us very much), except one who had to watch Jackie Chan first.
  3. This morning? Wally World. Needed eggs, prescriptions, birthday present.
  4. Bought some weights (30 cents a pound, is that a good price?), took child to Large Singing Rat Pizza Place for his party, did weight workout
  5. Heading out to see “Stomp the Yard” in just a minute
  6. It’s still 48 degrees here, raining off and on all day, they say tonite the temps will really turn cold. We’ll see. Running in the morning if it isn’t slippery.

Huh. I thought I had more to share. Oh well. Have a great weekend, y’all!
:grin::grin:

The weather? I wouldn’t bet on it

It is now “winter” here, as it is in much of the northern hemisphere. Only “here” is kinda quirky.

It has not snowed in our town during my kids’ lifetimes.

It has iced or sleeted like two, three times tops in the last ten years.

Every year or two, some weather system heads our way and the Weather People say things like “maybe” and “possibly” we might see some frozen precip.

Lemme tell ya – this is big news. We have been talking for a week about a system (perhaps you’ve heard of it, passed through Denver a day ago) that shouldn’t be here until Tuesday. “Do you think we’ll see ice?” “Do you think we’ll get off work?” “Dad, will they close the school?” “I wanna build a snowman.” You get the idea. Most of these predictions turn out to be false, because the weather doesn’t come this far south, or it isn’t cold enough before the rain quits, whatever. A couple years ago it snowed in Houston. Missed us. Anyway.

But guess what? Temperatures in North Texas are plummetting. This afternoon in Dallas it was 68 degrees and in Denton it was in the low 40’s. Denton is what, thirty miles from Dallas?

Now, it’s forty something in Waco, halfway from here to Dallas.

I’m no good at math, but I think by morning, unless something changes, it’ll be here. Three days early.

Yippee.
