What’s with the custom car shows?

Wow, what’s with all the shows where some celebrity drops an insane amount of cash to have a TV stuck in his SUV?

MTV has one. Discovery has some. The Learning Channel, too.

Last night I watched “rides” which had one of the Beverly Hills guys (I think) as narrator/host. They showed them modify a brand new Hummer 2 for a football player. New paint, chromed all the plastic bits, stuck TV’s and huge bass speakers everywhere. They also showed a “basic” SUV; they said it (a Suburban) cost $45,000 and they put $110,000 in options on it. Huh? What they didn’t say is you lose half the value to depreciation as soon as you drive it off the lot (and does your insurance cover $100,000 worth of chrome and electronics?)

Why?

I guess the dude’s got enough money to not only fuel but repair an H2, but jeez.

I’ve never been bitten by the ‘customize my car and make it look like a Hot Wheels character’ bug. Never. I just drive the damn thing. I’ll admit to about six months when I decided I should wash/wax/polish the hell out of it and boy was it a shiny car but it still had 90,000 miles on it. Now if I have spare money it needs to go to the kids college fund or to pay my spiraling property taxes and health insurance costs (don’t get me started on that shit), I’m surely not busy putting DVD players an multiple plasma screens in the fucking car. If I ever get a free morning maybe I’ll figure out why the left stereo speaker doesn’t work.

But, hey, I was having a hard time going to sleep, so if they wanna do all that and put it on TV, I guess more power to ’em…

I wanna be cool, and help spread the love

Everyone else is doing it, and since I’m always such an independent thinker (“I want to be different, just like my friends”), I think I’ll do it, too.

I have some Gmail invites. Let me know if you want one. But you gotta share the love when you get some invites.

BTW, I’ve managed to fill up 5% of my gmail allotment (1 gig) in two days. You just gotta subscribe to the right lists…

More “Emma Watson” news

By far the most common search term used to reach my lil’ blog is a combination of “emma watson” and boobies, breasts, bra size, or sometimes all of the above.

So, just to jack with Google some more, here’s another Emma Watson entry. It has nothing to do with boobies, but it does have to do with the apparent hoardes of young men that search for her on the interweb thingy.

Terra Lycos, the global Internet Group, today announced the 50 most popular user searches for the week ending June 12, 2004.

Harry Potter is number 9 on this week’s list, and making her first-ever appearance on the list is Harry Potter star Emma Watson at number 47.

Watson plays the role of Hermione Granger in the Potter series, and is the first of the Potter actors to ever make The Lycos 50. Watson generates nearly 60 percent more search activity than Daniel Radcliffe who portrays Harry, and gets 400 percent more searches than both Rupert Grint, a.k.a. Ron Weasley, and Tom Felton, who plays Harry’s arch enemy Draco Malfoy.
