Kid talk

Last night at dinner came an interesting conversation with my oldest. He was asking, as he often does, about Foreign Affairs:

Son: “So, will Badam Sudain ever hurt us?”

Parent: “No, honey, he’s in jail and will stay there a long time.”

Son: “But that’s up to the judge, right?”

Parent: “The judge said he has to stay for a trial.”

Son: “Because he wasn’t very nice. And he killed lots of people.”

“I bet he’s missing out on lots of good stuff while he’s in jail. Like Christmas, and Halloween.”

“On Halloween the guards all go trick or treating and do stuff and leave him there, with just one guy to watch him, I bet.”

“I bet he’s sorry he was so mean.”

Time to get moving

I told Getupgrrl in one of my many comments recently on her web page that I would start running again. Actually, she said she was going to start running and I replied “hey, me too.” I’m like that sometimes.

So I did. Sorta, in my own little “two steps from a heart attack” way. I walked/ran last night, alternating but going for well over an hour. It was hot and humid as hell (90 degrees, heat index 100+, at 10:00 PM) but I figure that just builds character.

Now my fancy sports watch that helps you time laps and intervals and stuff? Probably is a lot easier to use if you read the instructions. The jury’s still out on that.

And as a bonus? The house was quiet when I returned home, the kids having given up on their Lets Try and Stay Awake Until Morning Just In Case Mom And Dad Want To Be Alone game, the downside of which is that my wife had pretty much given up before they did. Such is life in our home. I was just a littlevery hot and sweaty (understatement) so I chilled and watched Leno / Letterman / Headline News for a bit till I cooled off. And I did not have a beer, so I think I’m really making progress.

Yeah, right.
