Oh my God, the automatic pilot – it’s deflating!

Sorry I didn’t post much over the weekend, I had major life events happening. Like we watched the Chargers choke, and caught a glimpse of Terry Bradshaw. Went to the grocery store (and snuck in only two things that weren’t on the list – can anybody guess what they might have been?)

Yesterday I took the boys to see “National Treasure,” which is a pretty cool movie. I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that you’ll like it if you are a history buff (whether it is accurate or not doesn’t matter, if it IS accurate you’ll think that’s cool, and where they play with the facts you can be smug about knowing they are messing with the facts, etc.) And somehow Nicolas Cage ALWAYS finds the one hot girl to help him with his adventures, ya know? I’m sure the National Archives employs nothing but young, hot, blonde scientists, ya know? I don’t think this is Cage’s best movie, but I don’t think it’s at all bad.

Anyway, we had a great time and spent three hours out of the house, allowing my wife some valuable project time. Our family room (still haven’t downloaded pictures) looks great, very different than it used to.

My youngest boy fell asleep after the opening scene of National Treasure and slept through the whole thing and all the way to the car. We pulled up in our driveway and he let loose with a yell of “I don’t want to be here, I want to see another movie!!!”

Obviously, he was robbed.

So, being the caring parent that I am, I poured a glass of wine (for me, silly), grabbed our leftover popcorn, and we popped Airplane! into the dvd player. A good time was had by all, and we took breaks now and again to help mom (but hopefully only when she needed it, we were trying not to be underfoot).

This morning, the brutal Texas winter rolls on, with a bone-chilling 67 degrees when we walked out of the house this morning. But you know what they say, it isn’t the wind chill, it’s the humidity that’ll do ya in.

Striker: My orders came through. My squadron ships out tomorrow, we’re bombing the storage depots at Daiquiri at 18:00 hours. We’re coming in from the North, below their radar.

Elaine: When will you be back?

Striker: I can’t tell you that- It’s classified.

Imaginary post

Okay, if I have any new years resolutions, one is to spend less time on the computer on the weekends and more time with my family.

But, since we’ve basically been yelling at each other since we woke up, this seems as good a time as any to go to our respective corners and take a time out.

My wife has the Learning Channel.

The baby is napping.

The boys are (for once) not fighting and watching Star Wars in their room.

So here I am.

Anyway, you were wondering about the title for this post. Yeah, that. Er, here’s what it be: My wife has busted her ass for the last week, dodging vomit and poop and feverish kids, and managed to get ready to paint the family room. Last night we actually painted (and I did help with the ceiling and primer, so I did help, but she painted the actual color on the walls)

But I don’t have the energy to find pictures and post them so that’s where you come in. First, here is before:

(imagine a large rectangular room with french doors at one end leading to a messy yard, tile floor, dark brown paneling on the walls, white ceiling)

And here is after:

(imagine the same room, same floor (with a few speckles on it), same doors, but now blue walls and a different shade of blue on the ceiling; the ceiling color extends into the kitchen in the background)

There, wasn’t that easy! Now you can see how much work she put into it. There was sanding, scraping, de-glossing, TSP-ing, washing. Isn’t the transformation amazing!? We’ve lived here ten years or so and this has been on the list for many of those years. And on ‘Trading Spaces’ where they show them open the can of paint and a couple commercial breaks later they are finished? Life isn’t like that.
