the savage beast

We hopped in the car this morning, a little late, dad was a little stressed. Spring break was over, lots to do at work, soccer practice tonite, etc.

The baby fussed. No, she cried, she ranted, she kicked. Nothing would please the little princess. Then, by chance, Joni Mitchell came on the radio. In a moment she was quiet, by the time the song ended she applauded. She sang along with the next one.

Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like, when you’re older, must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We’re captive on the carousel of time
We can’t return we can only look behind
From where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game

Stupid is as stupid does

Not that many years ago I used to run LANs for various sized offices. I was ‘the computer guy.’

Tonite (after a glass of Merlot, I admit) I try and set it up so my old Win 98 box can talk to my new Pentium Gee Whiz box so I can just transfer some data files and whammo I fuck everything up. Took two ours to restore my internet connection.

Grr. Guess tomorrow I’ll burn a few CD’s.

The “it’s late and I should go to bed but I don’t wanna” post

Random nonsense from my our weekend.

After you dump all the candy in a ziploc bag, there’s still plastic easter grass mixed in with the jelly bellies. Be careful.

It’s good to stay home now and again.

My daughter absolutely loves having a doll to take care of. And apparently, her doll always needs it’s diaper changed. Always.

It’s great when your kids make new friends in the neighborhood.

When you have a giant ziploc bag of easter candy, it is quite a treat to stumble across a full-sized Reeses or Cadbury egg. Bite size can bite me.

We have a new computer. I waited almost 24 hours before opening the box to set it up. Yes, I’m bragging.

Apparently it is better to make sure all the power cords are pushed all the way in before you call tech support in India.

It’s been days now and I still have the Fat Albert theme song (original, and new Rap version) running in my head.

I have lots of pics but I’m too lazy to e-mail them to buzznet. Maybe manana.

Just kidding about the bite size thing. They’re good, too, just you gotta eat more of them.

I had no idea so many people attended our church.

Hey, hey, hey.

We boiled and died dyed two dozen eggs. I’m just about the only one in the house that will eat hard boiled eggs. The kids… might. My wife’s limit is one a day (if that). Time to get cracking.

It was rainy and cold Saturday, and just plain cold today. Okay, it was forty something with a 20 mph north wind (and respective wind chill). Yes, that is cold. It is. Shut up. If I liked the cold I’d live in Canada or something.

We had to keep making the kids put on jackets today. They didn’t think it was cold. But they’re kids, what do they know?

This afternoon somebody stopped to look at the For Rent house across from us. We were in the front yard, smashing and tossing confetti eggs at each other, and my son chose that moment to burst out of the house Miami Vice style with his cap gun and say blam blam blam “You’re dead, you’re dead, oh, I missed you” BLAM “Okay, now you’re dead.” Yeah, we make quite the impression.

Opera 8 (I’m using the beta) will run gmail just fine. But gmail whines about it not being fully compatible, so you have to check in the preferences to show it as Mozilla, then Gmail will shut up. After you’ve logged in Gmail couldn’t care less and you can show whatever you want in the preferences.

This is getting silly, so I’ll end it now. More later, maybe. Happy Easter, y’all.
