the road goes on forever, the party never ends

Just to finish off the recap of Saturday..

5:30 – arrive at the house for dinner and fun with lots of family
7:30 – we’ve really had a blast. At least ten kids, for the most part everyone gets along great. GREAT food. Drinks. Our baby poops for the first time in three days. You know, the usual.

8:00 – hit the road, jack.

11:20 – home, home again. Carry sleeping kids into house. Assure seven year-old that no, he is NOT going to the store to buy something (he has money just a’burnin a hole in his pocket). After everyone else goes to bed, log in to the web to see that there has been a devastating earthquake that has killed thousands. On that happy note, decide it’s time to call it a day.

So, um, that’s it.

Watch ol’ bandit run

So, where was I?

Oh yeah. A long way to go and a short time to get there…

12:40 – head out on the highway. Looking for adventure. And whatever comes my way.
12:42 – remember “wait, that ain’t me.” Stop for gas and coffee.
1:50 – “I need to go to the restroom!” heard from the way back of the van.
1:52 – on the road again. At 90 mph, we’re making good time. The sky is clear, it’s not hot (for the first time since May or so), traffic is not heavy. Moving right along…
2:55 – stopped on the highway, five miles from the church. Road construction. Sign helpfully says “expect delays.”
3:20 – sneak in the back of the church to catch the baptism in progress.
4:00 – mass starts
4:12 – take the baby out of church because she will. not. be. have.
5:10 – what seems like the longest mass in recent memory has finally come to a conclusion. Other folks convinced I must beat my children or at least feed them amphetamines in order to get them to act as rudely (and loudly) as they did. We make our escape. Time to head to my sister’s and Par-tay

to be concluded…

Yeah, well, I’ll tell you anyway

Hmmph. After that overwhelming response to my last post, I’ll give you a rundown of Saturday:

7:00 – wake up
8:30 – arrive at soccer fields with all three kids (two in soccer uniforms, one too young but carrying a soccer ball) for 9:00 game. Why so early? It’s picture day!
8:55 – everyone else has arrived so we can now take team picture.
9:05 – start nine o’clock game
10:00 – finish game having dominated opponents. Son still not happy about his performance. Jump into vehicles.
10:20 – arrive at other soccer field several miles away for next soccer game with other child. Spend next hour escorting various and sundry five year olds to only restroom at the park since they didn’t go before the game.
11:35 – head home, having dominated another game. My pedometer says I have taken 5,326 steps so far today. Most of those are between field D and the restroom.
12:30 – having changed clothes and packed everyone in the van, leave for nephew’s baptism. 200 miles to go and two and a half hours to get there!

to be continued…
