So google play (or google music or whatever it’s called) has an “instant mix” button for any song in your library. It will use the magic power of google to search your music and find songs that have some sort of similarity or connection. It’s pretty cool and is a great way for me to remember stuff I don’t listen to very often – or today, stuff I didn’t even know I owned. My current library is over 4,000 songs so I guess that doesn’t seem too strange that I won’t remember all of them.
This morning, for whatever reason, there was a link at the top of my music page for an instant mix of Death or Glory. I know I played the song sometime in the last week or two, or googled the Clash, or something, so that’s why. But I’m pleasantly surprised at the songs it offered up and have been bopping along all day to tunes like Rock Lobster, some Elvis Costello, and Burnin’ Down the House.
With that, I give you Tom Fucking Petty:
And it’s hard to say
Who you are these days
But you run on anyway
Don’t you baby? You keep running for another place
To find that saving grace
