Lowered Expectations

When we tried to go see Batman vs Heath Ledger, the first night every showing was sold out by the time we made it to the theater.

This made my son very sad and more than a little frustrated.

With Da Mummy coming out tomorrow, and him being a huge Jet Li fan, he’s not taking any chances. Every day this week he’s asking “can we buy tickets yet?” or “Can we get tickets online?”

I don’t want to burst his bubble by telling him the reviews for Ledger Mania and George of the Tomb, um, aren’t even in the same league.

That’s OK, we’ll have a blast anyway.

(as an aside, my daughter thought if funny that there might be mummies at the pool. Daddies, too.)

So, I fed my movie addiction again last night, the boys and I went to see Hulk.

It’s pretty much what you expect from a movie about a guy that turns into a big green monster. But better than the Burger King commercials let on, a little bit.

My biggest complaint would be Tyler, I couldn’t buy her being the serious doctor type. But, that’s all they want from girls in most comic books (cute, probably smart, but not really required to do anything substantial). They do bend the laws of physics quite a bit, but that’s evident from the commercials (Hulk is obviously much, much bigger / heavier than the Banner, for instance. How he creates matter within his own body in seconds? And loses it again later? Just go with it)

There will be at least one more Hulk before they start going direct to video, probably two if Hollywood follows it’s normal business model.

Oh, as an aside? My theater officially sucks. I had the worst service last night, paying the highest prices ever, and I’m seriously thinking to hell with it, I just won’t go. It’s the damn digital projection on the big screen that gets me back in there, some movies simply look awesome. But really, y’all, a little customer service training for your employees wouldn’t hurt, let’s start with the manager, m’kay?

The kids have declined my offer to go swimming (”Too damn hot,”) but have counter-suggested Kung Fu. With popcorn, a drink, and the most important thing: Air conditioning.
