You know on the remodeling shows, when the young couple with the helpful (and quiet and polite) children want to spend a fortune remodeling their bathroom, the perky host says something like “well, first we need to take out the old tile.” And it takes five minutes?

I think they also have a crew of like 20 people doing all the hard work when the cameras aren’t on.
Good luck with it all and I’m glad I’m just doing minor home improvements at the moment (painting, putting up towel bars, etc).
I feel your pain. It’s why we generally wait until we can afford to pay a contractor before we do any work these days.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure HGTV is just there to dupe us into starting these projects, and then, in cahoots with home contractors, get us to give up and call in the pros.
